Natural-looking replacement teeth
Dentures replace missing teeth with removable, custom-made replacements — restoring your
smile, your speech and your ability to eat well. Modern dentures are lighter, more comfortable and
far more natural-looking than those of years past.
Types of denture
- Complete dentures replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw.
- Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth, clipping neatly around
your remaining teeth in acrylic or slimmer cobalt-chrome designs.
- Immediate dentures are fitted on the day of extraction so you never go without
teeth, then adjusted or remade once your gums have healed and settled.
What happens?
Making a well-fitting denture is a craft that takes several short visits: impressions of your
mouth, a bite registration, a try-in of the teeth set in wax (where you can approve the look before
anything is finalised), then the fit of the finished denture and any fine-tuning afterwards.
Getting used to new dentures
- Expect them to feel strange for a couple of weeks — persevere.
- Start with soft food cut small, chewing on both sides at once.
- Reading aloud speeds up adapting your speech.
- Sore spots are normal early on — come back and we'll ease them; never file a denture yourself.
Denture care: clean dentures twice daily over a towel or basin of
water, with a soft brush and denture cream (not toothpaste, which scratches). Leave them out at
night in water or cleansing solution — your gums need the rest. Sore, red patches under a
denture can be denture stomatitis (a thrush infection) — very treatable, so tell
us.
